Currently Redsnow 0.9.4 can only Jailbreak and Unlock Iphone 2g, Jailbreak Ipod 1st gen and 2nd gen (Non MC Models) and ONLY Jailbreak Iphone 3g (No Unlock for 3g yet). And NO Jailbreak and Unlock is available for Iphone 3gS users on 3.1.3 Firmware and same goes for Ipod 3rd gen.

WARNING: Do not update iPhone 3g & 3gS to 3.1.3 firmware yet if you want to preserve your Jailbreak/Unlock for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G (new models) and iPod touch 3G. This is because the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware updates baseband from 5.11.07 (unlockable with Blacksnow) to 05.12.01 (currently Unlockable) on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which makes it impossible to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS and 3G.
New version of Itunes 9.0.3 is safe to Update. No effect on Jailbreaking.

@3231dnewman No you will not loose contacts. Just right click on your iPhone name inside iTunes abs choose option “backup”. Then after upgrading to 4.0 firmware then do same thing by right clicking your iPhone name inside iTunes and choose option “restore from backup”.
