Ultrasn0w was unlocked which lets you unlock your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 or iOS 3 on the following basebands:
- 05.13.04
- 05.12.01
- 05.11.07
- 04.26.08
You just need to be jailbroken. Then, in Cydia, add 'repo666.ultrasn0w.com' as a source. Then, install ultrasn0w and reboot. Pop in your new SIM, and enjoy.

@gumballtech @gumballtech Whoa, somebody got defensive. Unfortunately, besides mixing up baseband and bootrom, they’re right. If you’re so confident it’s “simple”, make a video installed on fresh 3GS iOS4 iTunes install. That’s what these people are really looking for… If you were smart enough to preserve your bootrom, you can easily figure this out without a video.

@munkeyzrock4 It sounds like you’re the one who needs to catch up on his/her iPhone facts. The baseband has nothing to do with jailbreaking. Any 3GS (old BR) can be jailbroken and unlocked.

Jailbreaking 3GS isn’t simple, it’s impossible unless you preserved your baseband. Which in most cases, you wouldn’t be watching this video as you’d know a little more about iPhones.

@wizegy85 This particular demo was on the iOS 4 GM (same build as the final, though). The latest unlock works on any 3.0 or 4.0 baseband.
