Will a dual or tri-band cellphone increase my reception?
I use Verizon. Verizon uses the CDMA band. If I get a dual or tri-band phone, will I be able to use GSM towers and getter better reception?
No, you're stuck with Verizon and their roaming partner's CDMA network. They do have a CDMA-GSM phone, but it is only able to use the GSM frequencies overseas, not the US ones.
I work for a major carrier and it's not possible for a CDMA phone to roam onto a GSM network in the United States. Verizon's CDMA-GSM phone only has support for the 900/1800mhz frequencies used overseas, not the 850/1900mhz frequencies used by GSM carriers in the United States. If you have a dual-mode phone (CDMA - Analog), then you might be able to roam onto the other carrier's, including GSM carriers, legacy AMPS network, but not their GSM one.
