Pouch Holster

Cold Steel knives are not known for being the cheapest on the market. With folders and fixed blades ranging from $400-$600 a piece, they are slightly different from what you find everyday at Wal-Mart.

So when Cold Steel released their Finn Bear knife with a suggested retail value of $18.99, I had to see what it was all about.

What I like about the knife:

1. My blade was razor sharp right out of the box. Krupp 4116 stainless steel is known for being strong and holding a good edge.

2. The drop-point style blade makes the Finn Bear ideal for hunters who don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a knife. It would also work perfectly as a back up knife in the field.

3. Each Finn Bear is hollow ground, which means that the blade starts out thick at the spine and becomes thinner towards the edge. This is a great feature because it gives the knife a nice compromise between strength and sharpness.

4. The butt of the handle can be used as a hammer or mallet in the wilderness.

5. You should be able to get a nice grip on the knife thanks to the textured handle. Although there is no guard, the texturing provides a much needed anti-slip grip.

What I didn't like:

The knife's sheath is more of a universal pouch then a custom fit holster. I can see the Finn Bear falling out of it's sheath during rigorous outdoor activities.

Overall:

You can't go wrong for the money. I like the Cold Steel Finn Bear as a camping/toolbox or even hunting knife. It comes in handy and you wont feel bad if it gets beat up a bit.
